Donna Karan's 7 Easy Pieces.
Featured in the Vogue’s “Everything You Need to Know about the Little Black Dress,” narrated by Hamish Bowles.
Thirty years after presenting her first landmark collection, Donna Karan shared her story in My Journey, one of my favorite biographies of 2016. It is a fabulous ride through the fashion scene of a recent New York City past.
In 1985, women were expanding their place in the workforce and just starting to confidently take that seat at the table. At this moment, Donna Karan presented a ground-breaking first collection, which introduced an entirely new system of dressing based around the professional woman. Forget stuffy matchy matchy suits; the "seven easy pieces," were made from the most luxurious and innovative stretch fabrics being produced, and building a versatile wardrobe became easy for working women on the go.
I created this gif in the spirit of her first dynamic show, where models actively added and shedded layers on top of sleek bodysuits.
