PARIS FASHION WEEK F/W 2015: THE INCOMPLETE REPORT
MAKING MYSTERIOUS EYES AT THE CHANEL CAFE
Sitting in a café is pretty much my favorite thing to do. One goes to study, exchange ideas, and enjoy legal stimulants. But Lagerfeld presents the scene of this quintessential French past time as the place to look smart.
The best statement of the collection was the lone toe-capped low heel. I love the ease and practicality of just one shoe to go with every outfit, night or day.
I am also really into the tradition of Coco herself, tying a black bow around the collar of her white blouse. And also the inverse of this style: a white chiffon bow billowing down a black blouse for nite-time. I thought the dark, eyes to punctuate the collection and added mystery to the plethora of statement knotty tweeds, proper silks, and sweet headbands.
MONCLER'S EQUINE UNIFORM
I have always thought a wardrobe works best when built around a uniform: lots of great ways to wear a similar silhouette. The Moncler presentation showed us many ways to style one outfit with high tech fabrics that can take the lady on a ride from the great outdoors to out-on-the-town: black leggings, black turtleneck tied up with a white bandana, and topped with a dramatic graphic layer, often foxhunt, siren red.
My favorite detail was the trompe l’oeil gold key on a short, long-sleeved red mini dress.
STEVIE'S GIRL POSSE TRADE THEIR SHAWLS FOR COATS AT CHLOE
Claire Waight Keller describes the Chloé girl “as a ‘gentlewoman,’ wearing guardsmen’s coats and gentlemen’s clothing, but still with the flou and lingerie lace.” The looks are feminine, as Chloé always is. The models walked to “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac. I love that the dreaminess and poetry of Stevie Nicks’ finds a place in todays world of buttoned-up, press-ready type A’s. This woman is comfortable in her second skin, and has nothing to prove.
Where Stevie would don a shawl for dancing onstage, these girls wear warm coats, and skirts that display their street-ready tall boots. Rather than lining a whole piece, the flowing fringe of a tassel is confined to the closure of a perfectly adorable cross body bag.
MIU MIU IS LOVINGLY POMO AND OTT
For Miu Miu’s presentation, Miuccia Prada took us to a truly fun place in time where a billowing ruffle collar is status quo, not a frivolous fancy. It was so 60’s mod but also early 80’s-ish, when the 70’s conventions hadn’t yet worn off.
The collection contained many a fun checkered, short coat, a bunch of mixed patterns, and OTT jewelry. The color palette was like candy, but perfect for fall, like a candied apple.
